BATTERS in Cebu continue to grow as the folks of Barangay Hipodromo have organized a one-day softball league tournament on Aug.17 at Labangon Elementary School Grounds.

The tournament, organized by Gilbert Maga, aims to bring back the softball heydays of Hipodromo. He wants the sport to grow in their place, so the tournament is exclusive to Hipodromo residents.

Four teams will duke it out in a knock-out game format; the two winning teams will face off for the first place plum, while the two losing squads will battle it out for third place. However, no team will go home empty-handed as all of the them will receive cash prizes, trophies, and souvenirs. The teams are each composed of 19 players ranging from 13 to 60 years old.

“Barangay Hipodromo has produced good softball players since 1970, and we wanted to continue to search for players with potentials in this tournament,” said Maga.

According to Maga, this tournament will serve as a fun activity and recruitment stage to assemble Team Hipodromo, which will be joining local softball competitions.

Aside from the softball team, they are also electing officers for the Hipodromo Softball Club to strengthen the popularity of the sport in the barangay.

The winning team will pocket P2,500, while the second placer will get P2,000. The third and fourth placers will get P1,500 and P1,000, respectively.
