GERALD Jamili and Cherry Clarice Parcon of Bacolod arrived without any expectation but danced their heart out to win the Open Latin Category of the Cebu Open DanceSport Championship 2014 and 7th DanceSport sa Sugbu at the Waterfront Cebu City Hotel Grand Ballroom.

Jamili and Parcon beat Cebu’s top bets Wilbert Aunzo and Pearl Marie Caneda and Manila’s Juden Velasquez and Joana Nina Marciano.

Aunzo and Caneda won the gold medal in the Youth Open Latin Amateur division in the 68th Australian Dancesport Championship last year.

“We didn’t expect to win. Actually, when we compete, we don’t think of results but just give all the best we can and just dance” said Parcon.

Last year, Parcon and Jamili won gold in jive and bronze in the five-dance of the 2013 Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games in Incheon, Korea.

This year, they won a gold medal in the WDSF Asia close Latin competition in Hong Kong and a silver medal in the open Latin of the WDSF in Japan.

In the close Mindanao Latin, Ricksley Navaja and Judy Ann Pagalibangan of General Santos took the gold, while Cebu’s Anselimo Estillore Jr. and Desiree Seraga got two gold medals in the close Visayas Latin and the Adult 4 Latin category.

Dumaguete’s Vic June Rich Nocete and Alexis Dawn Masangkay won the Adult 2A Latin, while Gelmar Ballovar and Alexis Dawn Masangkay got the Adult 2B. Bert Kevin Diluvio and Jam Flores of Cebu won the Adult 3 Latin.

In the Corporate Latin division, John Paul Anore and Crystal Panilag of IPI took the title, while Andrew Ysla and Noelyn Mie Pedrano got the Junior 3 and 5 Latin gold medals.

In the teacher-student division, Jojit Cabuenas and Ava Sheldin got the 1-3 category, gold medal while Gilbert Amio and Rosario Araneta of Manila won the 2-3 category. ISL
