DRIAN Francisco returns to the ring this weekend following a long hiatus.

Francisco, who has not seen action for over a year now, attempts to shake off the ring rust and takes on veteran Columbian Manuel de los Reyes Herrera this Sunday (RP time) at the Alameda County Fairgrounds in Pleasanton, California.

Francisco last saw action in July of last year and lost by unanimous decision to Chris Avalos in a North American Boxing Organization (NABO) super bantamweight title fight.

The 31-year-old Francisco made a name for himself after winning the interim World Boxing Association (WBA) super flyweight strap with a 10th round stoppage over Duangpetch Kokietgym in Thailand in 2010. He, however, lost his title in his first defense against another Thai, Tepparith Kokietgym, in Thailand.

Francisco would win his next four fights, which includes wins over veteran Michael Domingo and Mexican Javier Gallo, before losing to Avalos in his second fight in the US.

The 33-year-old Herrera, on the other hand, is also coming off a loss. He got knocked out in the fifth round of his last fight against Rafael Vazquez. However, Herrera has fought some elite names the likes of former world champion Maurico Martinez, Jhonatan Romero and Tomas Rojas.

Francisco is 24-2-1 with 19 knockouts, while Herrera is 21-13-1 with 15 knockouts.

Unbeaten Filipino-American prospect Adam Fiel, who trains under Nonito Donaire Sr., is also seeing action in the card against Jonathan Alcantara.

Fiel is 2-0 with a knockout, while Alcantara is 6-10-2 with a knockout.
