GILAS Pilipinas picked its second win, 74-57, over Singapore in the ongoing Fiba Asia Cup 2014 held in Wuhan, China.
The victory gave Gilas the solo leadership in Group B with a 2-0 win-loss slate. The Pinoys will have one more game to play against Jordan at 5 p.m. today.
It was a balanced offensive for Gilas as 11 of the 12 players who were fielded scored at least two points.
Leading the Gilas scorers were Gary David and Paul Lee who scored 10 points each, while Cebuano center June Mar Fajardo managed to stay in the game and contributed five points, six rebounds and one assist. He got 15 minutes and 57 seconds of playing time.
Naturalized center Marcus Douthit was scoreless but had three rebounds and two blocks in 15 minutes.
Gilas started the game on a 9-0 run before the Singaporeans managed to counter with a 10-2 run to get within 11-10 at the 4:14 mark of the first quarter.
The Philippines regrouped and went to outscore Singapore 14-4 at the close of the first quarter.
Singapore tried its best to overcome the huge advantage of the Filipinos but all it could manage was to cut down the lead of Gilas to single digits twice in the second period as the Philippines built a 43-31 at the halftime break.
The final half was an all-Gilas show as they completely dominated Singapore and built a 22-point lead, 67-45.
