CEBUANOS are all set for the grueling challenge of the longest footrace in the country—the SN280 Ultramarathon Philippines which will blast off tomorrow in Santander, Cebu.

Of the 14 participants, 10 are hardcore ultramarathoners from Cebu and they are going to hit the roads for the 280-kilometer footrace, starting at 1 a.m in Santander, and ending after 56 hours in Daanbantayan.

The Cebuano runners who will take on the challenge are Tony Galon, the president of Cebu Ultrarunners Club (CUC), Rex Gonzales, Edwin Colina, Lope Noay, Joel Quano, Joel Cuyos, Rhodney Cabahug, Romil Garces, Kit Quiseo and Brian Guillen.

Some of these participants are finishers in last year’s 250K ultramarathon.

Cuyos (42:39) finished first last year, while Cabahug (46:40) and Galon (46:58) also crossed the finish line within the cut-off time.

The other runners are finishers of 100K runs— the main requirement to join the SN280.

This year, the route will pass through 21 cities or municipalities of Cebu—from Santander to Samboan, Ginatilan, Malabuyoc, Alegria, Badian, Moalboal, Alcantara, Ronda, Dumanjug, Barili, Aloguinsan, Pinamungahan, Toledo City, Balamban, Asturias, Tuburuan, Tabuelan, San Remegio, Bogo City, and ending in Daanbantayan.

The Stage 1 cut-off is 27 hours at the Toledo City Gymnasium, while the finish line in Daanbantayan must be reached within 56 hours for one to be considered an official finisher.
