IT WAS a dream that turned into reality as Bradley Ross Rayner successfully paddled atop a Stand Up Paddle (SUP) board from Tagbilaran City Port towards Lantaw Restaurant at the South Road Properties.

Rayner, 26, made history as the first Filipino to have paddled a distance of 77 kilometers from Bohol to Cebu in 11 hours and 30 minutes. He left the port of Tagbilaran at 3:25 a.m. and arrived in SRP at 2:55 p.m.

“Finally, I made it. It was a very tiring experience but fulfilling. I have been planning to do this along with (organizer) Buzzy Budlong and finally made it,” said Rayner.

Rayner was originally scheduled to do the attempt last Friday but the Coast Guard did not allow it because of the low-pressure area.
Rayner said strong winds are not really a huge problem for stand-up paddlers as these
help them move faster.

“Actually, we consider this a perfect weather for paddling. Some may fear the strong winds and waves but during the whole duration of my paddling experience, it helped a lot,” said Rayner, who hopes his attempt will help promote the SUP.

“This is also a way for me to help the tourism in Bohol. It is something new to do in Bohol,” said Rayner.

Rayner added that SUP is also a good way to stay fit.

“Dili na kailangan mo adto pa og gym to reduce weight and stay fit. We have a huge playground: the sea,” said Rayner.

Rayner experienced difficulty upon reaching the 30-kilometer mark near Cabilao Island where there were big swells.

“I was thinking positively na mo abot ra gyud ko sa akong destination, wala naku gi entertain mga negative thoughts kay mao gyud nay makapaluya nato. Always think positive lang gyud and here I am, nahuman gyud naku,” said Rayner.
