Farenas to face Davis-A A +A
Tuesday, July 1, 2014
MICHAEL Farenas hasn't seen any success in his campaign for a world title.
The 30-year-old hard-hitter has another chance to close in on another world title shot as he takes on unbeaten Mark Davis tomorrow in an International Boxing Federation (IBF) super featherweight title eliminator at the Foxwoods Resort in Connecticut.
sFarenas is dead serious at another run at the crown and has been training for this fight at the Wild Card Gym in California. According to Philboxing.com, he has been sparring with former world title challenger Mercito Gesta, Manny Pacquiao sparring partner Roger "Speedy" Gonzalez and Russian Andrey Klimov.
The winner of the Farenas vs. Davis eliminator gets the No. 2 spot and gets to challenge the winner of the fight between IBF super featherweight champion Argenis Mendez and No. 1 contender Rances Barthelemy.
Farenas, now rated fourth in the IBF, has fought twice for a world title but was unsuccessful in both occasions. He fought Takashi Uchiyama for the World Boxing Association (WBA) super featherweight strap in 2012 but the fight ended in a technical draw. His second attempt was also on that same year, for the interim version of that title, against Yuriorkis Gamboa.
Since that defeat, Farenas has won four fights in a row, all by stoppage wins.
The 27-year-old Davis, rated No. 11 in the IBF, is unbeaten in 18 bouts. However, he hasn't fought any credible opp onents.
Farenas is 38-4-4 with 30 knockouts, while Davis is 18-0 with five knockouts.
