THE Finals has been nothing but the San Antonio Spurs show and we ought to be paying attention to the clinic they have been putting on right now. What can this team teach us?

First – Loyalty pays dividends. The Spurs’ core of Coach Greg Popovich, Tim Duncan, Tony Parker and Manu Ginobili has played together for 11 years and that has been one of the biggest ingredients for their success. These guys know each other and trust each other out there and that’s why it continues to keep working for their team.

For the second one, I’d let Coach Pop tell it to you(This was transcribed in a Sports
Illustrated article and was after their heart-breaking Game 6 defeat last year): “I know you but if that’s the worst thing that ever happens to you, you’ll lead easy lives. You’ve got jobs, you’ve got wives, you’ve got children. S--- will happen to you. It’s called life.

Mark this down as a tough one, but if it’s the toughest, then you’re lucky. So get over it and let’s go play.” Motivation at its finest.

Another thing I’ve learned from the Spurs, which leads the NBA with the most number of foreign players in their roster ,is that individual differences can be set aside for a common goal. They may speak different languages and different cultures may come into play, making it hard to understand each other but come game time, it doesn’t show on the court.

Fourth - You have to be ready whenever your number gets called. I don’t know how Pop does it but whoever he puts in there always finds a way to contribute. A bigger role has been demanded of Kawhi Leonard and he delivered. They needed Danny Green to be more than just the spot-up shooter he was last year and he responded. Patty Mills will hit a timely three off the bench for you too.

Watch every Spurs possession and you’d know right away what this last one is all about.

Marvel at how every player on the floor, from one to five, touches the ball and how fast it

moves around paving the way for the best available, high-percentage shot. Efficient. Magical.

San Antonio is doing everything right in basketball. They downright deserve the championship.
