THE Philippine Superliga All-Filipino Conference will be coming to Cebu on July 5 at the Mandaue Sports and Cultural Complex in Mandaue City.

The tournament was originally planned on June 28 but was moved to July 5 by the organizers, said Southwestern University (SWU) head coach Jordan Paca, the local point person for PSL.

A tournament on June 28 in Tugegarao has been scheduled instead.

Cebu will get a chance to watch three Cebuanos playing for team Cignal HD against Systema Active in the men’s division. The women’s side will be between Air and PLDT Home in the women’s division.

The three Cebuanos suiting up for Cignal HD are Kent Boyd Abunda of University of San Jose Recoletos (USJR), Emmanuel Marlon Luces of the University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF) and Mike Abria of the University of the Visayas (UV).

“The Cebu volleyball community is already very eager to watch their favorite players in the pro league. We are looking forward to this tournament,” said Paca.

Luces, the team Cignal HD libero, is looking forward to playing in Cebu. which he considers his second home.

“Playing in the place where our volleyball skills have been honed will inspire us more to play for the team,” said Luces, who is from Bacolod but played college ball in Cebu.

Former UV beach volleyball sensation Abria, who earned the moniker “the wall” for his impressive defense, said it is a dream come true for him to play in the pros.

“Dugay ko nangandoy na modula indoor og pro league or even play for the national team.

I am happy that I was given the chance to play in the pro league,” said Abria, who steered UV to two national titles in the Nestea Beach Volleyball tournament.

A pro ranks in volleyball in the Philippines is rarely heard of, unlike basketball.

Abria said that as a pro player, they are being paid to play volleyball on top of other perks like free lodging.

“Its nice earning, while doing what I love most,” said Abria.

The Team Cignal men’s team is currently holding a 2-1 (win-loss) standing and is ranked No. 2 next to Team PLDT Home. They are scheduled to play this Sunday against Instituto Estetiko Manila.
