YOU don’t have what it takes to join the MMA pro ranks yet? Try the amateur ranks.

The Cebu Amateur Mixed Martial Arts Promotions (Cammap) will hold the Cebu Amateur Mixed Martial Arts Tournament on Aug. 16 at the Cebu Coliseum.

“With the popularity and knowledge of the Filipinos about MMA expanding, Cebu wants to join the scene with more events. Aside from Gound and Pound series, I decided to organize an amateur tournament as a grassroots program for aspiring fighters in the region,” said Yaw-Yan ArDigma Cebu Founder Ekin Cañiga said during a press conference at the Yaw-Yan ArDigma gym in Sanciangko St.

Caniga was joined by officials Allan Caumeran Jr., Duane Gacasan and fighters Rexan Colong, Jediael Alvarez, Joed Bulotano, Roy Bajar, Budoy Surigano, Lando Nacua, Agustin Simbahon and nine-year-old Tongken Caniga.

For the initial event, Caniga said five clubs in Metro Cebu will be joining. These are the Redneos Gym in Talisay City, the Warrior MMA, Xanadu gym of Mandaue, Durex Dragon gym of Lapu-Lapu City and the One Cebu MMA.

In the future, Cañiga hopes to include fighters from Bohol, Dumaguete and other places in Central Visayas since he plans to hold a tournament every quarter.
