ONCE again, the De La Salle University (DLSU) Green Archers played spoiler to Southwestern University Cobras’ campaign following a masterful 72-64 win in the semifinal round of the FilOil Flying V Hanes Premier Cup 2014 at The Arena in San Juan City yesterday.

The Green Archers found holes on the Cobras’ full court pressure defense to crawl back from an eight-point deficit midway to the third period.

After allowing SWU to erect a 46-38 lead, the Green Archers dropped a 12-0 counter run for them to grab a 50-46 lead and never looked back from there.

DLSU held SWU without a field goal for more than seven minutes after Landry Sanjo scored his first points at the 6:08 mark of the third period.

Cesafi reigning MVP Mark Jayven Tallo was the only Cobra player to light up the scoreboard during SWU’s scoring drought. His five free throws were, however, not enough to withstand the Archers’ attacks.

Sanjo broke the dry spell at the 8:44 mark but SWU could no longer stop DLSU who had Arnold Van Opstal dominating the middle to help the Green Archers build a 10-point lead, 66-56.

Tallo tried to initiate a comeback when he drilled three straight triples but it was not enough to ignite life back to the Cebuano squad.

SWU scored the first five points of the game but DLSU countered with a 13-0 run and the Archers went to control the first quarter behind the offensive blast of Almond Vosotros who was eventually named best player of the game for scoring 19 points.

Jeron Teng scored a silent 14 points, Norbert Torres added 12 and Arnold Van Opstal finished with 11 points as DLSU marched to the championship round while Jay-R Parker topscored for SWU with 17 points and Tallo contributed 14.
