CEBUANO volleyball enthusiasts will get the chance to see up close and personal the three Cebuano professional volleyball spikers playing for team Cignal HD when the the Philippine SuperLiga All-Filipino Conference hits town on June 28.
The Philippine Superliga All Filipino Conference is planning to have a home and away format with four teams flying to Cebu, said Southwestern University (SWU) head coach Jordan Paca.
These four teams are Cignal HD playing the Systema Active for the men's match and Air Asia.com and PLDT Home for the women’s side.
The three Cebuano players in the Cignal HD roster are former University of San Jose Recoletos (USJR) Ken Boyd Abunda, University of Southern Philippines Foundation’s (USPF) Emmanuel Marlon Luces and University of the Visayas’s (UV) Mike Abria.
“This will be a very exciting event that we Cebuanos are looking forward to. This will give our local players a chance to see how the country’s top players play," said Paca.
The Superliga was organized last year to elevate the level of competition of volleyball in the Philippines and to institutionalize the international volleyball format in the local scene.
According to Luces, who is playing as a libero for team HD Cignal, he is very exciting to play in Cebu again, not as a varsity but a professional volleyball player.
“When I learned about the plan that we will get a chance to play in Cebu, I got so excited, I feel so proud playing in Cebu and my teammates are also very excited," said Luces.
Luces added that they won against Systema Active in a five thrilling set in their opening game and hopes to duplicate the win in his hometown.
Team Cignal HD is currently leading the ranks with a 2-0 win-loss record with its other victory over Via Mare.
