NONITO Donaire Jr. didn’t look like his dominant self in his last fight. He looked a bit sluggish against longtime rival Vic Darchinyan, before scoring a much needed knockout in the ninth round.

Expect a better and improved Nonito Donaire Jr. going up against World Boxing Association (WBA) featherweight champion Simpiwe Vetyeka this Saturday night at the Cotai Arena of the Venetian Resort in Macau.

“He has shown huge improvement (in power and speed),” Nonito Sr., the father and trainer of Nonito Jr., told Sun.Star Cebu.

Nonito Jr. wants to add another a world title in another division. The 31-year-old former “Fighter of the Year” is a world champion in the flyweight, bantamweight and super bantamweight divisions, and an interim world champion in the super flyweight division.

The 33-year-old Vetyeka, 26-2 with 16 knockouts, shouldn’t be taken lightly because he has beat two of Indonesia’s best with the other one of the best in the featherweight division – Chris John.

That’s why Nonito Jr., 32-2 with 21 knockouts, will fight intelligently against a taller Vetyeka.

“It depends. I know there will be changes inside the ring,” Nonito Sr. said on their approach on Vetyeka inside the ring.

Aftera split decision loss to unheralded Klaas Mboyane, Vetyeka has won three straight fights, all by knockout. Vetyeka stopped John in the sixth round to win the WBA featherweight belt and Yordan in the 12th.

Nonito Sr. has studied Vetyeka’s fights and he believes that his son should just steer clear from the South African’s main arsenal, his right hand.
