THE growth of mountain bike in the local sports scene and the vision to promote a healthy lifestyle prompted the Sugbo Bikers and Cebu City Hall to collaborate on an event, the 1st Sugbo Seawall Side Bicycle Oval Race, on May 31 to June 1 at the South Road Properties (SRP).

Cebu City Councilor Gerry Carillo, a mountain bike enthusiast himself, said this event aims to promote biking inside the SRP compound and a healthy lifestyle among the Cebuanos.

“This collaboration will not stop here. We are also hoping to have a duathlon and a running event after this,” said Carillo.

The two-day bike event will have the mountain bike competition on Saturday and the road bike race on Sunday. Both will have the open, juniors and seniors categories.

A 10-lap race route will be prepared for the mountain bike race. Each lap will be 2.8 kilometers long.

The road bike racers will navigate the same route 15 times.

The Sugbo Bikers expect 1,000 riders to take part in this race.

“We appreciate the help of Cebu City in organizing this event since this kind of competition will help us bikers measure our skill level,” said Sugbo Bikers President Alberto Rabasol.

The top five in every category will receive P5,000, P3,000, P2,000 P1,000 and P500, respectively.

Registration fee is at P260 with one raffle coupon and free lunch for the first 100 participants. Registration forms are available at the Cebu City Hall and Ed Filosopo Eatery at Sanciangko City Center.
