ABOUT 160 swimmers registered for this year’s 7th edition of the Olango Challenge at the Crimson Resort and Spa in Lapu-Lapu City.
According to Philippine Business for Social Progress (PBSP) Visayas Regional Office Corporate Affairs and Relationship Management Reggie Marie Barrientos, the number registered this year surpassed their target number of 150 swimmers. Last year, they attracted about 132 swimmers.
“We are happy that we have a lot of swimmers who registered this year,” said Barrientos.
The country’s premiere open water marathon carries the theme “Building classrooms in Olango Island one stroke at a time.”
The event organizers also want to raise awareness on the drowning in the country and promote the open water marathon.
The open water marathon features a men’s, women’s competitive and fun swim mixed the 6K and 2K categories, which will start at 9 a.m.
The event is backed by PBSP Chairman Jose Antonio Y. Aboitiz in partnership with Philswim represented by Alexander Reyes.
For the last six years, about 592 swimmers participated and the event has generated P3.93 million net income.
