AFTER having an off-season last year, Cebu’s top female triathlete Lorhiz Echavez-Lopez is on a winning roll in 2014, winning all but one of her races so far.

Her only loss was against Team Parklane’s Cianyl Gonzalez. Lopez will finally get her chance to redeem that loss as they two will meet again in the Bogo8080 on May 11 in Bogo.

Lopez, who topped all but one of her races this year, came second and four minutes behind Gonzalez’ time of 2 hours 52 minutes and 43 seconds in the first leg of the Triathlon Team Championships in Dalaguete last February.

Lopez dominated the next three events she joined: the NAGT in Danao last April 6, the second leg of the Triathlon Team Championships on April 13, and the Tri-Bantayan last Sunday, all of which Gonzales opted to skip.

“I was assigned in Department of Health in Bohol after the earthquake last year to hasten the rehabilitation. I was not able to train and had an off season, I started my training again in February this year. That was my first race this year and Gonzalez defeated me,” said Lopez of Gonzales, who trains with her sister Loren Dale in swimming.

Meanwhile, In the men’s division, Kriastiane Lim is also on a win streak; topping three of his four events this year— all of those events are the same of Lopez. He came second to Anthony Devos from Belgium last February.

Xterra pro Joseph Miller, who is fresh from his seventh place finish in Xterra Malaysia, is planning to join in Bogo8080 and would be one of the contenders to try to end Lim’s winning streak.

“Miller has evolved into a bona fide pro. It will be a pleasure having him race in Bogo 8080 and I will look for him to change the dynamics of the race, especially on the bike. He just came from a training and race abroad so I expect him to be sharp,”Lim divulged that it’s anybody’s race since there are other strong contenders as well.

“I’ m also not counting out Abet Biagan and Gerry Calinawan of F18 team. It’s gonna be an exciting race,” Lim said.

The 80-80 category will have 1.8-kilometer swim, 65K bike and a 14K run. (RSC)
