MORE than 1,600 runners are set to join the sporting and color festival event—Amazon Festival Run—tomorrow at the Terraces, Ayala Center, Cebu.

The Amazon run will have the open category of 6K, 12K and 21K divisions.

The run offers the unique color festival. However, for serious runners, it’s a competition more than a fun run since cash prizes and gift certificates are at stake.

Aside from registration inclusions—race bib, singlet, holi colored powder and free breakfast—they will also give complementary sunglasses to early comers: the first 200 to arrive in the 21K, the first 100 runner in the 10K, and the first 400 runners in the 6K will each receive sunglasses.

The assembly time will be at 3 a.m,. The gun start will be at 4:30 a.m, 5a.m and 5:30 a.m for the 21K, 12K and 6K, respectively.

Hannah Manubag of Amazon events said they already exceeded their 1,500 expected
runners but they will still accept registrations until today.

Because of the unexpected turnout, the event ran out of singlets but the organizers cooked up a plan so that more runners can still join.

“We ran out of singlets, but decided to either lessem the fee by P100 for those who will not get singlets, or pay the regular registration prize and you can get the singlet one week after the event,” Manubag said.

The race will have a party-feel with a DJ and performers tapped to provide the entertainment for the runners.

Parts of the proceeds of the event will go to Icanserve Foundation Incorporated, a group that gives hope and assistance to cancer patients.(RSC)
