FIVE Cebuano basketball players, who are now strutting their stuff in different schools in Manila, made it to the 12-man line up for the Philippine National squad to the Southeast Asian Basketball Association (Seaba) Under-18 Champioshhip for Men in Tawau, Sabah Malaysia on May 5-7.
Leading the pack are former Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu Magis Eagles players Henry Asilum, who is now with the University of the Philippines Fighting Maroons; Henric Dawn Ochea of Adamson University Soaring Falcons; and Dave Yu who is now with the National University Bulldogs. They will be joined by former University of the Visayas Baby Lancer Paul Andres Desiderio, who is also with the Fighting Maroons; and former UV Green Lancer Leonard Santillan who is now with the NU Bulldogs.
Completing the team are Aaron Black of Ateneo, Andrei Caracut of San Beda, Mark Dyke (NU), Richard Escoto (FEU), Jolo Go (Hope Christian High School), Thirdy Ravena (Ateneo) and Radge Tongco of San Beda.
RP U-18 coach Jamike Jarin believed the team is a winner, talented, skilled, smart but inconsistent.
“Of course, the last word (inconsistent) I need to change before the tournament starts,” Jarin said.
Thought they lost 74-73 to Far Eastern University last Monday in Filoil Flying V Hanes Premier Cup. Jarin believed that the team still has a long way to go since it was their endgame mistake that cost them the game.
The other countries participating in the U18 championships are host country Malaysia, Indonesia and Singapore.
Jarin however, is preparing for some thing even bigger – the Fiba World U-17 Championship in Dubai, UAE in August.
