CEBUANA Kimberly Uytico helped tow the National University (NU) in winning the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) Season 76 women’s lawn tennis title over the De La Salle University, 3-2, last week in Parañaque City.

Uytico, a former player from Ocana National High School in Carcar, played in the doubles event of the team competition to help teammates Anna Christine Patrimonio, Marie Gold Nagret, Anna Vienna Biernes, Jzash Eale Canj and another Cebuana, Hanna Espinosa.

Uytico was paired with Polito to nip the duo of Anne Rene Castillo and Nikkirey Arandia in the second doubles match, 6-3, 6-4.

“This is my second year with the Lady Bulldogs and I feel proud to be part of the team that won the UAAP championship title,” said Uytico.

Meanwhile, Espinosa, who lost in the first singles match, still felt pride for her team.

“Being part of the team that won the championship title for the second time makes me happy. The team worked and trained hard and that dedication was seen in the victory,” said Espinosa.

After Nagret and Biernes won the first doubles match, Espinosa and Canj lost their respective singles matches. The team only stayed in contention after Uytico and Polito’s win. Patrimonio sealed the deal for NU with a singles victory, which broke the tie.
