Bantayan to host Life-Saving Olympics-A A +A

THE Philippine Life Saving (PLS) organization will hold the 2014 Great Titan Lifesaving National Championships on May 15- 18 at the Municipality of Santa Fe, Cebu.
The three-day event will include trainings and symposiums on life saving and sports events like the 1K and 2K beach run, 90-meter beach sprint, beach relay, beach flag, swim and run. This will also include life saving sports event such as 100m Manikin carry with fins, 50m manikin tow with fins, and 200m obstacle swim.
Great Titan will have individual events, team events, and the great titan challenge.
Each team will have six members-- four males and two females. They will use a point system and the top four teams will compete in the Great Titan event, which requires four lifesaving tasks.
The events will have the Junior (10-17), National (18-Above), and Master (35-40) age groups.
The Great Titan is open to all life savers and sportsmen members of Philippines Life Saving (PLS), and any interested to join. However, participants are require to learn the International Lifesaving(ILS) rulebook .
Philippine Lifesaving secretary general Larry Joie Alag said they will individually select participants who will be trained and compete in International Lifesaving Championships in September in France.
“We want everybody to come so we can select. We want to give aspirants and swimmers the chance to make life saving a career for life. Medals will be given but the reputation of being part of the elite national team is at stake,” Alag said in a press conference at Summit Circle Inn.
Sta. Fe Mayor Jose “Titing” Isgana said he is glad to host the event since it’s a rare kind of water sports. (RSC)
