UNIVERSITY of Cebu (UC)-Koreans logged a crucial victory yesterday to advance to the Men’s Open division championship match of the 3rd BRO Nationals Football Festival.

UC-Koreans convincingly beat Airlifters FC, 4-0, at the Tambasia pitch of the Don Bosco Technology Center (DBTC).

Kim Dong Chan scored the opening goal in the 30th minute. Ji Mim Ho hit his mark in the 43rd for a 2-0 scoreline at halftime. Yaeng He Seng hit the back of the net in the 74th, while Ja Sun Heyong struck two minutes after.

UC Nigerians took the top spot of the division after a 6-4 victory over Don Bosco Alumni-Erco the other night, which left UC-Koreans and Erco FC tightly battling for the other finals slot.

It could have been a different story if UC-Koreans lost their last match because Erco FC won their final match, 3-0, against the undermanned Don Bosco Alumni-Erco.

JR Castillon scored two straight goals in the 15th and in the 27th. Christian Juezan also scored in the 83rd minute.

UC-Nigerians finished the elimination round with 10 points from an unbeaten slate. UC-Koreans ended up in second with nine, while Erco FC is third with seven points.

On the other hand, the Central Visayas Regional Athletic Association (Cviraa) team will take on DBTC in the Under-13 division championship match today at 7 a.m. which will be played simultaneously with Cviraa vs. DBTC in the Under-18 division championship match at the Aboitiz Sports Field.

The Men’s Open division championship match between UC-Nigeria and UC-Korea will follow at 9 a.m.

The football festival part of the week-long 3rd BRO Nationals Football Festival also kicks of today at the same venue with matches in the Mixed Under-7, Mixed Under-9, Mixed Under-11, Boys Under-13, Boys Under-15 and Executive 38 divisions.
