AFTER suffering a rough welcome, National University Bulldogs showed their top game against the smaller Raphael’s Café, 80-52, to nab the no.2 slot in Group B in the 2014 Mandaue City Mayor’s Cup Inter-Collegiate Basketball tournament last Thursday at the Mandaue City Sports and Cultural Complex.

NU ran a smooth game from start to finish and leaned on Cameroonian Alfred Aroga’s dominating presence to grab the second semifinal slot in Group B behind the Southwestern University. The Cobras finished the elimination round with 2-0 card.

Despite being outclassed, Raphael’s Cafe played hard and were able to give NU some scares especially when Michael Cantonao sank back-to-back triples that moved the Cebuano ragtag team within 51-38 midway to the third.

However, Aroga scored seven straight points, including a thundering tomahawk dunk, to help the Bulldogs to a 15-4 blast for a 66-42 lead entering the final quarter.
