FORTY-THREE coaches from the Visayas attended the one-day United States Professional Tennis Association (USPTA) Coaches Developmental Workshop last Thursday at the newly-opened CitiGreen Tennis Resort in Mambaling, Cebu.

The developmental workshop was facilitated by coach Ted Sayrahder of USPTA.

Cebuana Lhuillier marketing manager Dyan Bohol said the USPTA Developmental Workshop is a project of Cebuana Lhuillier and the first event done in Citigreen Tennis Resort.

“We were very happy with the number of coaches who joined the workshop. Those who joined were from Cebu, Leyte and Mindanao. Overall, it’s a worthwhile learning experience and satisfying. They were taught how to teach tennis in an innovative and fun way,” said Bohol.

It was Kenneth Salvo and Mario Craiz who thought of holding the workshop here in Cebu.

The objective of the seminar was to give the local coaches the chance to enhance their teaching skills, to provide the latest techniques and training methods, and to prepare teaching professionals for testing and certification.

Among those who joined is Cebu’s former top age group player, Bernardine Niño Siso, who found find the experience overwhelming.

“Useful siya sa mga interested to become a coach because coach Sayrahder gave a handful of tips to us. We were taught about the standard and basic USPTA way of handling an athlete; like how to introduce ourselves to the players and how to examine asa ang sayop sa player,” said Siso.

Siso said coaching is one of his options and what he learned from the workshop was very useful.

“We were also taught unsaon pag tan-aw correctly sa mga sayop sa players ug unsaon pag interact sa players,” said Siso.
