THE University of the Visayas (UV) men’s and women’s sponsored teams vie for this year’s title in the Talisay City Beach Volleyball Invitational Competition at the Talisay Liberation Park, Poblacion.

The competition is one of the highlights of the Takas sa Talisay, Kagawasan sa Sugbo Celebration.

The UV men’s team of Jade Becaldo and Louije “Tippy” Tigpos beat the University of San Jose-Recoletos (UJSR), 25-21, to arrange a finals showdown against the pair of Edmar Bonono and Left John Tormis of the University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF).

The USPF duo earned the finals slot after thrashing SWU, 25-15, in their cross-over match last Saturday.

Becaldo, a member of the UV squad that won the 2013 National Nestea Beach Volleyball title, sees a big chance of winning this year’s title.

“So far, bisag di pa kaayo mi dugay nag-partner ni Tipgos, pirmi man mi makadaog against them (USPF) in other local tournaments. But anything can happen, so we will just play our best (even if we became partners only recently, we always win),” said Becaldo.

The women’s UV sponsored team of Apple Saraum and Jusabelle Brillo, who won the 2013 women’s Philippine National Games (PNG) title, also hopes to win this year’s title as it faces USPF, which is composed of Rochelle Rica and Gelly Murpos in today’s finals.
