TWO school teams will be named major awardees for winning regional and national events while 10 individuals and the local football governing body will be cited in the 32nd Sportswriters Association of Cebu-San Miguel Beer Sports Awards at the Ayala Activity Center on March 26.

The 10 players are cited for making it to national teams, while the Cebu Football Association will be recognized for hosting the first-ever Asian Football Confederation (AFC) President’s Cup, the first international football tournament in Cebu.

The elementary team of Don Bosco Technology Center (DBTC) and the secondary team of Paref Springdale are the major awardees for winning the regional and national titles of the Milo Little Olympics.

Arantxa Mari Trebol of the San Roque Football Club is the lone rose among the thorns as she once again made it to the national team, this time in the Philippine (PHL) Girls Under-14, that saw action in the AFC 14-Under Festival of Football in Vietnam.

This is the second time that Trebol played for the country as she was also the lone Cebuana in the PHL Girls Under-13 in 2012.

Making it to the combined PHL Boys Under 15/16 team are Ivan Palmero and Major Dean Ebarle of the University of Southern Philippines Foundation, Kintaro Miyagi of the Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu; and DBTC’s Moiselle Angelo Alforque and Vincent Erik “Ngitz” Lovitos. The team played in the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM)-Frenz U-15 ASEAN Champions Trophy 2013 and the AFC Championship Qualifiers in Malaysia.

Elson Dorimon and Neil Miñoza of Don Bosco Boys Home, on the other hand, were part of the PHL team in the Homeless World Cup played in Poland.

Paolo Pascual will get another citation for keeping his spot in the PHL Under 23, while Valentino “Val” Calvo is recognized for his stint as a member of the PHL Under 18 squad. (Pooled Report)
