MANILA—Solo leader Talk ‘N Text stakes its unbeaten slate when it takes on Barako Bull, while San Mig Coffee battles Ginebra in the 39th Philippine Basketball Association Commissioner’s Cup elimination round at the Araneta Coliseum.
The Tropang Texters are aiming for their fourth straight win as they collide with the Energy Cola at 3 p.m. The Coffee Mixers, on the other hand, are also looking for their second victory when they face the Gin Kings at 5:15 p.m.
Despite the ejection of head coach Norman Black early in the fourth period, the Tropang Texters kept their composure down the stretch to fashion out a 107-99 win over erstwhile co-leader San Miguel Beer last Friday.
The 6’7” import Richard Howell finished with 38 points on top of 20 rebounds, four assists, five steals and a block to lead the Tropang Texters charges over the Beermen. Howell, a former North Carolina State University standout, averaged 27.33 points, 20.67 rebounds, 2.0 assists, 2.67 steals and a block in three matches for the Tropang Texters and is one of the top imports of the conference today.
He will be up against Barako Bull’s Joshua Dollard, who managed only 12 points and nine rebounds in their 85-103 losing game against Air 21 also Friday. The 6’8” Dollard started strong with 45 points and 18 rebounds against Ginebra in his debut last March 7 and had 44 points and 19 rebounds over Rain or Shine on March 9.
And with a strong local support, Howell vowed to continue wrecking havoc against the Barako Bull’s defense today.
The Philippine cup titlist Coffee Mixers will suit up in the match carrying a 1-0 card following a 91-75 win over Globalport on Wednesday, while Ginebra is 1-1 after losing to the Beermen, 112-96, last Sunday. (FCC)
