THE Don Bosco Technology Center (DBTC) now enjoys bragging rights over rival school Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu (SHS-AdC) after bagging the Boys Under-15 title, 2-1, in the 16th Aboitiz Football Cup yesterday at the Aboitiz Sports Field.

DBTC-2 scored two early goals over Ateneo de Cebu (AdC) to dictate the pace of the game.

Mark Unabia capitalized on a crucial mistake made by an SHS-AdC defender and hit the back of the net in just the second minute and Kyle Ronquillo made it 2-0 four minutes later.

Joshua Famador finally found the answer in 71st minute but this came a little too late as SHS-AdC had no more time to score an equalizer.

Springdale snagged third place honors after a 3-0 victory over Abellana National School (ANS)-Pomeroy.

James Haosen scored back-to-back goals in the 19th and 51st minutes, while Xavier Larauri added another one in the 69th.

DBTC-2’s Unabia finished as the Boys Under-15 division’s top scorer with 10 goals, while teammate Jessie Semblante bagged both the MVP and best goalkeeper awards.

AdC’s Leo Maquiling and Mark Chan were named the best midfielder and defender, respectively.

In the Boys Under-18 division, Leylam FC demolished St. John Seminary, 15-1; AdC crushed ANS-Pomeroy, 4-0; and Liloan SFC easily beat FC TV, 3-0.

In the Under-13 age group, University of San Carlos (USC)-BED defeated Subabasbas, 3-0; Guardian Striker edged out Canduman, 2-1; AdC routed Mactan Camellanz, 3-0; Inayawan beat CPMS, 3-0; DBTC-2 won against Sais FC, 2-0; and Tabor Hill FC settled to a 1-1 draw with Cebu International School (CIS).

The 16th Aboitiz Football Cup will be played in two venues today – the Aboitiz Sports Field and the DBTC football pitch.

San Roque FC takes on AdC in the Girls Under-18 championship, while CIS faces St. Theresa’s College in the battle-for-third match at the Aboitiz Sports Field. There will also be matches in the Boys Under-18 and Men’s Open division. The rest of the Men’s Open matches will be played in DBTC. (EKA)
