SENATOR Pia Cayetano will lead the 250 All-Women Ultra Marathon, which will kick off at 10 p.m. at the Capitol grounds and will end at the Alta Cebu Village Resort and Convention in Cordova tomorrow.

The 50-kilometer ultra marathon is exclusively for women and is organized in line with the celebration of the International Women’s Month.

This will be the first time for Cayetano to join the race and race director Willy Estepa said she might be one of the top contenders.

“Supposedly, siya unta among guest to give a short pep talk and to fire the starting gun. But she decided to register when she learned that this event is an exclusive race for women and that her triathlete-friend Aya Schlachter is also joining, ” said Estepa.

Estepa added that Cayetano is a strong supporter of health consciousness and the well-being of women in the country.

Estepa also said they are ready for today’s race and 27 running clubs will be putting up 23 hydration, aid and food stations along the route.

“It will be a very tough race this year with the presence of several long distance runners such as Mereeis Ramirez, Sandra Soliano, Virgie Parajenog, reigning champion Jade Abellana, Preciosa Sanchez, Jinggay Lugay, Malou Hermosa, June Marq Ocana, Glen Pontanar and Menchie Kitane,” said Estepa.
