THE Omega Pro triathlon team was launched yesterday and the members hope to make decent finishes in 10 major races in Cebu.

The team is composed of 11 individuals from diverse backgrounds who all want to promote a good quality of life.

The group is composed of 2011 Xterra Filipina elite champion Lohriz Echavez-Lopez, ultra-runner Lorna Amor, 2010 men’s rookie triathlete of the year Raymund Reel Bontol, team captain Frederick Castañeda, Liliafiona Tudtud, Alton Amor, Joseph Larida, Steve Cortes, Allistair Patino, Christopher Capistrano and Paul Jake Castillo.

Lopez is a former member of the Philippine triathlon team who went inactive after she got married with long-distance runner turned triathlete Mendel Lopez in 2011.

This year, Lopez will be making a comeback in competitive triathlon under the Omega Pro tri team to inspire former triathletes who got married to return to the sport and to send a message that being a parent is not a hindrance in continuing their sports.

“It’s not easy juggling my time from being a mother, work and training but it’s all about time management. I want to inspire all mothers not to stop their respective sports, not just to return and become competitive but to embrace it as their way of lifestyle,” said Lopez.

Lopez, along with the rest of the team, has signed up in the women’s Filipino elite category of the Cobra Energy Drink Ironman 70.3 Philippines race on Aug. 3 in Shangri-la Resort and Spa.

In 2011, She was among those who qualified for the Ironman World Championship in Kona, Hawaii after she won one of the top three spots in her age group but decided to skip the race to settle down.

Meanwhile, Castaneda said the races they will be joining are the Vaseline men Xterra Off-Road Triathlon Race, The Team Triathlon Championship Leg 2 in Bantayan Island, The Hunat Sugbu Triathlon in Bantayan Island, the Bogo 8080 Triathlon, the 5150 Century Tuna Race in Subic, A triathlon race in Argao and two major races in Bohol.
