THE World Series of Boxing, a boxing tournament organized by the International Amatuer Boxing Association (Aiba) is a big boost to amateur boxers seeking to improve their quality of life.

Abap executive director Ed Picson believed that it is no longer relevant for top fighters to turn professional in order to earn more.

“You just need to become a good and wise fighter to become a member of any team in the WSB. Then you will earn,” Picson SAID.

The Philippines’ lone boxing bet in the 2012 London Olympics, Mark Anthony Barriga, is a member of the Italia Thunder and he scored his third win last Saturday over the highly favored Chinese fighter Lu Bin who fought for the USA Knockouts team.

“Si Barriga karon is earning big. He has a monthly salary with the Italia Thunder of 1,500 euros a month. Tapos may game allowance pa. Iba ang para sa panalo and iba para sa talo. Ang maganda dun,he is still receiving monthly salary from PSC. Nakatabang gyud sa iyang parents at naka pag save pod,” Picson continued.

Before Barriga, Charlie Suarez was also hired by the Thunder for two years. (RCM/Sun.Star Cebu)
