EDWARD Ybañez of the University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF) topped the first leg of the Philippine Sports Commission/ Cebu City Sports Commission Olympic Development Beach Volleyball Series at the Fort San Pedro sand courts.

Ybañez won after scoring 59 points via king of the beach format. Ybañez was four points ahead of perennial winner Jonrey Sasing, while Jade Becaldo of the University of the Visayas (UV) finished third with 52. Luigi Tipgos got 40 for fourth place.

“The finals was a total seesaw battle. Tipgos came into the finals in first place then Becaldo jumped into the top spot all through the finals until the final game. In the very last game, they had a grueling pace and Ybañez pulled ahead right at the end,” said PSC beach volleyball consultant Eric LeCain.
