MANILA—Even if they have a 3-2 edge, the San Mig Coffee Mixers vowed not to be complacent as they take on Ginebra Kings in Game 6 of the best-of-seven semifinal series of the 39th PBA Philippine Cup at the Araneta Coliseum.

After two-time MVP James Yap nailed a trey in the last 13.4 seconds to escape with a 79-76 win in Game 5 on Saturday, the Coffee Mixers need only a win to reach the Finals for the second straight conference. Both Yap and Marc Pingris aim to end the long series when they meet the Kings in the lone game at 8 p.m.

And with their back against the wall now, the Kings are expected to make necessary adjustments, particularly in defense to get even and extend the series into full distance.

The winner between the Coffee Mixers and the Kings will face Rain or Shine in the best-of-seven titular series starting next week. The Elasto Painters claimed the first finals slot after a 4-1 win over Petron Blaze.

“We are not celebrating yet. In fact, we are not smiling. We are ahead by a lone game only. Ginebra is a never-say-die team. We need to focus for Game 6. Every game naman mahirap. The more na tumatagal yung series, the more na nagiging pahirap nang pahirap.

Labanan kasi ito ng adjustments. Lalo na itong Game Six,” said Yap.

For their part, the Kings refused to buckle down to pressure and vowed to come back strong and remain solid, stressing they remain very supportive to their skipper LA Tenorio, who went for a lay up instead of a three-pointer that could have sent Game 5 into overtime.
