ELEVEN teams are expected to compete in the first leg of the Triathlon Team Championship this Saturday in Dalaguete, Cebu.

There will also be 70 entries in three categories—the standard, sprint and kiddies.

The standard division will have a 1.5-kilometer swim, 40K bike and 10K run, while the sprint division will have a 750-meter swim, 20K bike and 5K run.

Sugbutriathlon official Benjoe Gimenez said this race course will be more challenging compared to last year’s edition.

“There are some changes in the run course wherein the participants will get a chance to see the breath-taking view of the mountains and the ocean view during the bike segment,” said Gimenez.

Gimenez added that some of the participants are using the race as a tune-up for the Vaseline men Xterra Off-Road Triathlon Championship series set next month in Liloan, Cebu.

“I believe that participants are in top condition and are excited to join the first local triathlon event for 2014. It has been a while that a triathlon race was conducted and this is also part of the training for some of the participants for the upcoming Xterra,” said Gimenez.

Meanwhile, Dalaguete’s spokesperson Almar T. Villahermosa said they have done the preparation, including a clean-up drive in the different venues.

Villahermosa believes the race would be a good Avenue to showcase Dalaguete’s tourism.
