TEAM Cebu/Philippine Air Force (PAF) will be up for a tall order as they face not only the country’s best riders but seven foreign teams as well in the opening of the 2014 LBC Ronda Pilipinas.

The race will start with a 66-kilometer criterium at the Quezon City Memorial Circle.

Team Cebu/PAF is composed of team captain Warren Davila, Elmer Navarro and Lito Atilano with new members such as Tomas Martinez, Oscar Rindeole and Joseph Millanes.

According to team manager Amis Urgel, the three other members he recruited are veterans who are used to riding in mountainous areas.

“The three new members are all from Tarlac and they are very familiar with the route especially going to Baguio, where the three legs will be. I am confident that the team can improve last year’s overall finish especially as the six of them have been training together as a team since November,” said Urgel.

Last year, the team finished seventh overall in the 16-stage contest.

Urgel added that this year, they will be competing with seven international teams-- the CNN Cycling Team, Singha Cycling Team, Malaysia national team, Taiwan, Team Gusto, Uijeongbu team of South Korea and the Dutch Global Cycling Team.

Race director Ric Rodriguez said this year’s event is an exciting and challenging edition with the presence of the foreign teams.

“Expect a battle royale in this year tour,” said Rodriguez.
