Banking on Quiñahan-A A +A

FORMER University of the Visayas Green Lancers center and Rain or Shine Elasto Painters big man Joseph Ronald Quiñahan is aiming to take the team to the finals once more in the ongoing PLDT myDSL-PBA Philippine Cup.
Quiñahan, who nailed the winning triple in Rain or Shine’s 89-86 win over the Meralco Bolts last Wednesday, was hoping that his team will earn the twice-to-beat incentive going to the quarterfinal round as they battled the unpredictable Air21 Express in their last elimination round game last night.
With 17th of a second left in the game and with nothing to lose, Quiñahan received the inbound pass from Gabe Norwood and without any hesitation, the 6’6” tattooed center heaved a triple to give the Elasto Painters its 10th win of the conference and its 6th straight after losing to Talk ‘N Text 87-90 last Dec. 17.
“Medyo gulat sad kay unexpected gyud to (referring to the winning triple). Pasalamat lang ko nga nakatabang ko sa team. Wala man gyud special sa among team, trabaho lang mi tanan, buhaton lang kon unsa ang gusto ni coach Yeng. Mao to nga taas kaayo among kompyansa. Bisan kinsa siguro gihatagan adto nga last play maka shoot gyud kay nothing to lose man gud to nga situation,” Quiñahan told Sun.Star Cebu.
Quiñahan admitted that he was the last option for that last play.
This conference, Quiñahan sank 12 of 41 attempts from the three-point area, the most was three where he did it twice.
On their 90-88 win over TNT last January 11, Quiñahan was named best player of the game after topping the team scorers wth 19 points, including three triples, on top of grabbing four rebounds, dishing out two assists and blocking one attempt.
“Maayo unta og maka abot na pod mi sa finals. Last year naka-abot man mi pero luoy lang kay na sweep mi sa Talk ‘N Text. Mao karon ang amo goal maka abot sa finals, pero tungason pa kaayo pod na kay grabe ka lig-on sa mga kontra. Ang amo ani kay trabaho lang gyud mi, extra efforts lang para moabot sa among target,” he added.
In 13 games, the Cebuano banger scored an average 8.42 points, grabbed 5.67 rebounds, 1.75 assists, 0.58 steals and 1.0 blocks per game.
“Kinahanglan pa gyud mi modaug sa Air21. Kay kon mapildi mi unya modaug ang Petron sa Meralco, mag tie mi unya duna playoffs para sa no.2 team mao na among gilikayan. Mao trabaho gyud mi karon,” added Quinahan.
