HARD-HITTING prospect Marco Demecillo gets his biggest career break with a fight for a regional crown this weekend in Mexico.

Demecillo is taking on Mexican up-and-comer David Sanchez for the vacant World Boxing Association (WBA) International super flyweight strap at the State Gym in Hermosillo.

Demecillo left last Monday for Mexico along with trainer Brix Flores. RWS Gym trainer Juanito Ablaca told Sun.Star Cebu that Demecillo took the fight on short notice and only had two weeks to train. Despite that, everyone should expect the heavy-handed Demecillo to give Sanchez a run for his money.

The 23-year-old Demecillo, who calls the RWS Gym his home, stepped in for WBA No. 14 rated Breilor Teran.

Demecillo suffered his first career loss last year following a 12-round boxing clinic by unbeaten prospect Arthur Villanueva in Davao City. However, Demecillo has bounced back and won a close unanimous decision over erstwhile undefeated Giovanni Escaner.

Demecillo also owns wins over Gerpaul Valero and now US-based Marvin Mabait.

A victory over Sanchez would earn Demecillo a spot in the world ratings.

But that is a tall order for Demecillo because Sanchez is on a roll.

Sanchez is rated No. 3 in the WBA, No. 5 in the World Boxing Organization (WBO) and No. 13 in the World Boxing Council (WBC).
