THE Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) officials and star players sneaked silently into Cebu to visit the typhoon Yolanda-ravaged Bogo City last Friday afternoon.

PBA Commissioner Chito Salud, chairman Mon Segismundo, media bureau chief Willy Marcial, columnists Quinito Henson and players Arwind Santos and Alex Cabagnot of Petron Blaze Boosters, Willie Miller of Barako Bull Energy Colas and Enrico Villanueva of Global Port Batang Pier arrived Friday morning and travelled north to boost the morale of the survivors of Yolanda in the northern city.

“They arrived by noon and after a brief courtesy visit at the city hall, we proceeded to the three hardly hit barangays – Pulang-bato, Sto. Rosario and Gairan. They (PBA) brought with them donations, relief goods and basketballs that they distributed to the Skids in the barangays,” Bogo City Mayor Celestino “Junie” Martinez Jr. told Sun.Star Cebu yesterday.

The PBA gave away basketball boards, goals and balls on top of relief packages to the people of Bogo, among those hardest hit by Yolanda.

Also part of the entourage were actress Shaina Magdayao, who traces her roots to Bogo, Excite Inc. chief operating officer Icel Palomares Argana, Provincial Board Member Yayoy Alcoseba and travel and tours expert Andrew Teh.

“Dunay mga bata nga gpaduwa nila og basketball unya gitan-aw sa mga PBA players. In Barangay Pulang-Bato, although they did not promise it, they told the people that they will do something to help rebuild the badly damaged covered court. Their presence was really a morale booster to the people. It somehow relieved them of their sorrows after their houses and properties were damaged by the typhoon,” added Martinez.

PBA’s visit was part of its Alagang PBA Program to help the victims of the calamities rebuild their lives after calamities.

Last November, Ginebra’s Mark Caguioa, TNT’s Jimmy Alapagm Asi Taulava, LA Tenorio and Danny Seigle helped in PBA’s relief operations in Tacloban City.

The PBA is also planning to visit Ormoc City, Bohol Province and Samar.
