MANNY Pacquiao’s knockout defeat to rival Juan Manuel Marquez last year was as brutal as it can get. Despite that, ALA Promotions president Michael Aldeguer, believes that Pacquiao is still the same fighter that has dominated boxing for years.

“Manny is not an ordinary athlete, he is a rare breed. Manny is too strong mentally to be affected by it,” he said. “People forgot that Manny is still at the top of his game. If you review the last Marquez fight, he was phenomenal and dominating Marquez until that one punch. Rios is nowhere near the caliber of Marquez.”

Omega Boxing Gym trainer Christopher “Ping-Ping” Tepora, the coach of IBF light flyweight king Johnriel Casimero, has seen Pacquiao
train first hand and believes that the Filipino superstar will run over Rios.

“I see Manny winning by knockout,” said Tepora, who joined Pacquiao’s camp in Gen. Santos with his younger brother and unbeaten prospect Jack Tepora. “We really saw him there that he is really determined to bounce back. I think he will knock him out in five rounds because Rios’ style fits Manny’s.”

Another top boxing coach in Cebu City, Edito Villamor, also feels that Pacquiao is going to end Rios’ night. That is if Pacquiao doesn’t get careless and complacent.

“It won’t reach 12 rounds. Pacquiao will win by technical knockout or knockout in any round because the style of Rios fits Pacquiao’s. However, he can’t take Rios for granted because he might score an upset. In boxing we don’t really know the result even though he has the edge in style because there is always an upset,” said the ALA Gym head coach.

Villamor also thinks that the Pacquiao that will show up tomorrow depends on how the knockout defeat to Marquez affected him mentally.

“It depends if he got affected in the Marquez fight then he may not be that aggressive, but if it didn’t affect him then he will still be as aggressive because Pacquiao is a courageous fighter.”
