THE delay in the NCAA men’s basketball tournament is expected to affect the schedules of the regional tournaments of the 2013 Philippine Collegiate Champions League.

According to NCAA commissioner Joe Lipa, action in the oldest basketball tournament in the country is expected to end by mid-November yet.

The delays forced Lipa, who is the concurrent PCCL executive director, to adjust the schedules of the regional qualifying tournaments, which were supposed to start on Oct. 25 in Davao City for the Mindanao Regional elimination and will be followed by the North/Central Luzon and Southern Luzon, respectively, on the first and second week of November.

The first schedule of the regional qualifying tournaments was released in September yet.

However, the long delay of the NCAA tournament might push the schedule of the step-ladder Sweet 16, which was earlier scheduled to start on Nov. 19 in Ormoc City for the Southern Islands slot.

Cesafi member-schools led by 2013 champions University of the Visayas Green Lancers, Southwestern University Cobras and University of San Carlos Warriors have secured slots to the Sweet 16.

The Lancers and the Cobras will start their quest in the Round of 8, while USC will have to beat the Visayas Region Conference champion in order to move up to the next round.
