THE ALA Promotions launched another potential top-rating daytime boxing spectacle-in-the-making, the Pinoy Pride XXI, in Solaire Resort and Casino in Manila on July 13.

ALA Promotions president Michael Aldeguer presented yesterday the main protagonists of the event dubbed “When Worlds Collide” in a press conference at the St. Mark Hotel in Redemptorist Plaza yesterday.

“I believe that the Philippines is still the boxing Mecca in Asia, and with this promotions in Solaire, we can showcase our capability to put up a huge boxing promotion. We can even put up what the Venetian Hotel in Macau had offered to Top Rank Promotions. We have planted the seed here in Cebu now, it is the time that we plant the seed in Manila,” said the youthful Aldeguer.

The 23rd installation of the Pinoy Pride Series will top-bill the newly crowned WBO Minimumweight champion Merlito “El Tigre” Sabillo (21-1-1, 12KOs), who will put his title at stake to his No.6 contender Jorle Estrada (16-6, 5KOs) of Columbia in a 12-round championship match.

Fighting underneath Sabillo-Estrada were undefeated Arthur Villanueva (21-0, 11KOs) and the AJ “Bazooka” Banal (28-2-1, 20KOs).

Villanueva, the OPBF Superflyweight champion will fight the former WBA super-flyweight
champion Arturo “Fuerte” Badillo (20-1, 18KOs) Mexico in a 12-round championship match for the WBO Asia Pacific super-flyweight title, while Banal will try to regain his status against Abraham “Cholo” Gomez (18-, 7-1; 9KOs) in a 10-round non-title match.

“Many people don’t know Sabillo, that is why we wanted to present him through this promotion. Villanueva is ripe to be given this opportunity to showcase his talent in Manila, while for AJ, this is all about redemption. We believe that it is not his peak yet. He has a lot of potentials. Unfortunately, it is still not his time,” added Aldeguer.

Sabillo won the title vacated by another ALA Promotions fighter Donnie Nietes in 2011, by scoring a technical knockout win over Luis De La Rosa in his hometown in Columbia last March.

“We have doubled our preparations. What Sabillo gave in Columbia, we have doubled that coming into this fight. We have new strategies in hope that we can keep the title,” said trainer Edito Villamor.

Sabillo himself believed he could take out Estrada with a knockout victory.
