THE 10-round fight between world-rated Rocky Fuentes and Mexican banger Juan Kantun could steal the show in Pinoy Pride 19– “Mexican Invasion” on April 20 at the University of Southeastern Philippines in Davao City.

According to ALA head coach Edito Villamor, Fuentes’ trainer, the co-main event fight should be a sure hit to fans because both boxers are willing to slug it out.

“It will be a great fight because Kantun is a tough fighter that likes to slug it out, while Rocky has good skills and also has power. It will be an exciting fight,” Villamor told Sun.Star Cebu yesterday. “He had a good training camp. He is in top condition,”

Against the right opponent, Fuentes tends to put on exciting shows.

Both Fuentes and Kantun are hard hitters. The Oriental and Pacific Boxing Federation (OPBF) flyweight champion Fuentes is 34-6-2 with 20 knockouts, while Kantun is 20-3-3 with 15 knockouts.

“He is a knockout puncher and he is fast. We shouldn’t take him lightly. There is a possibility that Rocky will knock him out if he times his punches right,” said Villamor.

Villmor already has a plan to negate Kantun’s punching power, by pressuring him to move back.

“If he backpedals he usually doesn’t throw punches. But we don’t know maybe they have some changes in their style. But it depends on who can adjust on top of the ring,” he said.

Villamor, a top Filipino fighter in his heyday, said that the 27-year-old Fuentes had an outstanding training camp and will be in tip-top condition on fight night.

The main event will be Rey “Boom-Boom” Bautista’s (34-2, 25 KOs) title defense of his World Boxing Organization International featherweight belt against Mexican Jose “Negro” Ramirez (24-3, 15 KOs), which is also expected to be an exciting bout.
