HE does not gamble anymore.

True or false?

He does not drink anymore.

True or false?

He does not womanize anymore.

True or false?

There is only one answer: True.

That is according to sportswriter Nick Giongco.

In a story for the Manila Bulletin on Sunday, Giongco, the paper’s expert on Manny Pacquiao, said Pacquiao has been somber “for the entire 2012.”

Meaning, not a drop of drink for the eight-division world champion last year.

Giongco wrote that a member of Pacquiao’s inner circle “now drinks secretly, away from Pacquiao’s sigh” lest he gets kicked out of the Pacquiao Team.

In the not-so-distant past, Giongco wrote that Pacquiao was a heavy drinker. The boxer would spend hours killing bottles, mostly high-end drinks, often stopping only in the wee hours of the morning.

I know—no, I was told by Pacquiao associates—that Pacquiao also gambled a lot then, ranging from bets in cockfighting, billiards and casino stints.

It was no secret that Pacquiao would throw away good money on card games, at times his losses amounting to millions of pesos in one night.

Everybody knows he would splurge in anything of his fancy.

But his generosity was—still is—also legend.

He would, at times, win a million bucks in bets. But he’d give “balato”—toss out money for the boys—double that. Meaning, he would give more than he would win.

With his vices gone, according to Giongco, Pacquiao would now regularly hit the sack early.

All Bible and zero booze for the one-time bakery helper.

Caring for the poor instead of gambling.

Wondrous evenings with Jinkee instead of womanizing.

In short, Pacquiao is now trying his damnedest to repair his sins of omissions, if not commissions, when off the ring.

Never mind that PacMom (Dionisia, the PacMan’s mother) has still not approved of Pacquiao’s transfer from the Roman Catholic Church to a Born Again sect.

Pacquiao is down after that 6th-round knockout to Juan Manuel Marquez in December 2012.

But, definitely, Pacquiao isn’t out.

Do you know that Pacquiao is reportedly planning to form a Manny Pacquiao Church—in the tradition of a Puno Methodist Church?

That’ll be the day.
