Alaska battles Barako Bull for top spot in PBA-A A +A

MANILA—The Alaska Aces and Barako Bull dispute the top spot when they collide today, while Barangay Ginebra is expected to go full throttle as it faces sister team Petron Blaze in the 38th Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) Commissioner’s Cup at the Araneta Coliseum.
Both the Aces and the Barako Energy Boosters will be carrying identical 0-2 win-loss slates when they clash at 4:15 p.m. The loser will join Globalport in the second spot.
Ginebra, which will be playing for two straight playing dates, will still parade 6’10” import Herbert Hill when they meet Petron Blaze Boosters in the second game at 6:30 p.m.
Despite a poor performance in two straight losses, Hill will keep his post while the Gin Kings are awaiting his replacement Vernon Macklin, who will be arriving on Monday, according to his agent Sheryl Reyes. The Ginebra management hopes the 6’10” Macklin, a second round draft pick by the Detroit Pistons in 2011 who played with the Rio Grande Valley Vipers in the NBA Developmental League last year, will fit the team’s needs.
Also set to rejoin the league is former import Denzel Bowles, whom San Mig Coffee seeks to replace the ineffective 6’11” Matt Rogers. The 6’10” Bowles, who led the Coffee Mixers to the championship last year, will be arriving today, according to SMC executive Noli Eala.
He is expected to play for the Coffee Mixers on Friday in their game against Rain or Shine at the Mall of Asia Arena.
Bowles, last year’s Commissioner’s Cup “Best Import” awardee, is playing with the Zhejiang Golden Bulls in the Chinese Basketball Association.
