CARY “The Prince” Bullos has been the poster boy of Cebu MMA for years now. And with his stature as one of the best, if not the best bantamweight in the region, he attempts to prove that Cebu is home to the best MMA fighters in the Philippines with a win over his first foreign opponent in the main event of “Universal Reality Combat Championship (URCC) Cebu VIII – Survival” tonight at the J Centre Convention Hall.

“I know he is a well-rounded fighter and I will show the Cebuanos who I really am,” said the 31-year-old Bullos, who is taking on URCC veteran Hideo Morikawa in a two-round super fight, in yesterday’s weigh-in at the Veranda.

Despite Bullos’ resume, Morika is unfazed but he is not taking his Cebuano opponent lightly.

“This is the first time I have seen Cary and I see his body, he is very macho,” Morikawa jokingly said. “I know he has trained hard every day. I think I have the advantage in speed.”

After a 4-0 start, Morikawa has had a recent slump in his career as a URCC fighter, losing back-to-back fights to Jessie Rafols and Reysaldo Transmonte. But the Japanese warior’s recent setback doesn’t bother him at all.

“If tomorrow I will lose for the third straight fight, I will be very sad. But I’m not thinking about that. Rather I’m concentrating on this fight.”

Bullos, the current URCC Visayas bantamweight titleholder, has a 5-2 URCC record, while Morikawa is 4-2.

Bullos’ teammate at Sel-Def Jimmy Yabo (7-0, 1 NC) puts his unbeaten record on the line against veteran Lorde Rey Yamit (7-3) in the main supporting bout.

Yamit was five pounds over the 149-pound weight limit in his first try at the scales.

After sweating it out, he tipped 152 ½ in his second try, 151 ½ in his third before tipping the scales at 151 in his last try. Both camps have agreed to fight despite Yamit being two pounds over.

Unbeaten Vaughn Donayre (3-0) of Deftac Cebu is looking for his fourth straight win against 38-year-old Allan Atup (5-2).
