Mayor’s ultimatum-A A +A
Tuesday, May 27, 2014
CEBU City Mayor Michael Rama gave the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) and its director Supt. Noli Romana three months to “shape up or be shipped out.”
That sounds like an ultimatum for Romana and the city police to bring down crime and improve its efficiency.
But where would they be shipped out if they fail to bring crime down? As members of Cebu’s Finest used to say, “Ship them to Cuaming.”
Romana said he gave himself and the CCPO the same ultimatum. “I’ll go for it. That is doable. Iyan din yung timeline ko (That’s also my timeline),” Romana said.
Mayor Mike said the police should be serious.
Why not? Sunday night, three men went on a crime spree, shooting and wounding two persons and stealing five vehicles.
Cebu City Vice Mayor Edgardo Labella, who was acting mayor when Mayor Mike was in the US, said he agrees with the mayor.
“The police should thoroughly and in a no-nonsense manner, implement their mandate to serve and protect the public,” he said.
I think the problem basically lies now with the criminals. Why should they strike when the police are not around?
The Cebu Puericulture Center and Maternity House has been hogging the news lately for an incident involving a newborn child with the upper lip taped, by whom, we may not now know because hospital officials’ and workers’ mouths are zipped.
Make it two children with mouths taped, because another mother later came up with photos of her child with mouth taped and what appears to be a pacifier.
The photos wouldn’t prove who did it. But I guess tapes, pacifiers and phone cameras don’t go well together.
