Smuggling more fun than planting rice?

SEN. JV Ejercito told Friday a powerhouse cast of Cebu journalists that includes transmedia practitioners lawyer Frank Malilong, Bobby Nalzaro and Manny Rabacal and paramount leader Cheking Seares that he has filed a bill that would make rice smuggling a crime of economic sabotage.

In effect, that makes rice smuggling a heinous crime.

Do you think that would end rice smuggling?

Rice smugglers, even Customs officials know, are smart people. Why, they may even switch to smuggling corn instead of rice to avoid being charged with economic sabotage.

Agriculture officials are boasting that the Philippines is now exporting rice. But this can’t be reconciled with the fact that rice smuggling is still prevalent.

That’s the reason the Senate is probing rice smuggling in the country.

Sen. JV Ejercito said Central Luzon was once the country’s rice granary. Now, it’s Cebu, Davao and Cagayan that ship rice to Luzon because of rice smuggling.

I’m afraid that one day, the Philippines will be exporting smuggled rice.

Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte was quoted as saying he would “gladly kill” a specific rice smuggler if he is caught unloading rice smuggler in his city.

Cebu City Mayor Mike Rama said that won’t happen in his city because RL, which refers to Rama the mayor and Labella, Vice Mayor Edgardo Labella, also means “rule of law.

”That would never happen, my dear readers, either in Davao City or Cebu City.

Rice smugglers, we should note, don’t unload the rice themselves.
