‘Di ko magpabuot’

CEBU City Mayor Michael Rama, after initially defying a City Council resolution urging all elected officials to undergo drug testing, later submitted himself to the test.

What he disliked, he said, was being dictated by the council to undergo a drug test.

“Nganong magbuot man sila nako? Dili ko magpabuot (Why should they tell me what to do?

I will not be dictated upon),” Rama said.

So, it’s not about fear of the result?

All 18 members of the Cebu City Council voluntarily submitted themselves to a drug test last Wednesday.

Councilor Alvin Dizon sponsored a resolution for elected officials, who were not included in a local law mandating drug tests for all City Hall employees, to undergo drug testing.

When he learned Rama submitted to the test, he said, “Pakuha raman diay siya, nganong pakipot pa sa sinugdanan (Why was he hesitant when he would take the drug screening test anyway)?”

Did he hear what the mayor said? Repeat, “Dili ko magpabuot.”

Former Sen. Joker Arroyo raised alarm over Palace statements downplaying President Noynoy Aquino’s alleged meddling in the 2012 impeachment trial of then Chief Justice Renato Corona.

Arroyo said PNoy’s act, alleged by Sen. Ramon “Bong” Revilla Jr., set a “bad precedent” because any trial should be independent.

Were the senator-judges swayed by PNoy?

Corona got convicted, and Revilla was among the 20 senator-judges who voted for his conviction.

PNoy has confirmed meeting with Revilla as well as with Senators Jinggoy Estrada, Teofisto Guingona III and Ralph Recto in the middle of the Corona trial to “lessen the pressure” being exerted on the senators by some “interest groups” seeking Corona’s acquittal.

That confirms that some pressure was exerted among the senator-judges.

That’s one of the the reasons Corona got “pressure-cooked.”
