If Lacson isn’t gay, is Miriam crazy?

-A A +A

IF AN accusation of a public person being gay or crazy could be dismissed by mere denial, few would bother to hurl it.

Such a charge sticks in the public mind even if there’s no shred of evidence, especially when it’s said by two senators against each other.

A homosexual under cover can’t be easily exposed unless he’s in a photo or video of naked men romping in bed. No such sex photo or video, a la that sex-in-school-uniform scandal, with Sen. Ping Lacson in it.

Sen. Miriam Santiago said Ping is Pinky but Lacson said he isn’t and doesn’t intend to be.

In return fire, Ping says Miriam has immunity by insanity, meaning she’s crazy. But proof of that couldn’t be more than her outbursts against bumbling prosecutors in the Corona trial. Not likely that Ping has a certification that Miriam is nuts.

She lost to Fidel Ramos in 1992 with lunacy as a side issue. Critics then paraphrased the Billy Joel song: “she may be crazy/but just maybe it’s a lunatic president/voters are looking for.” And how did they call her watch? “Seiko-Patek.”

Closet doors

Doors of public persons’ closets, like doors to the law profession, often swing on slow hinges. Bebe Gandang-hari a.k.a. Rustom Padilla wasn’t reluctant to come out but then he had few fans and no voters to worry about.

Just as one couldn’t prove Ping is gay (unless he cross-dresses at the Senate), one couldn’t prove Miriam is “loca” (unless, topless and in mini-skirt, she blasts “Team Patay” posters and “tatay” priests).

Sewer language does tell volumes about the kind of senators Pinoys elect.
