A 36-YEAR-OLD man died in a shootout with police in Barangay Tabok, Mandaue City last Sunday dawn.

The fatality was identified by police as Arvin Basaca, a resident of Sitio Paradise, Barangay Tabok.

He was allegedly drunk and fired at police officers.

A team from the Special Weapons and Tactics (Swat) of the Mandaue City Police Office and Basak Police Station went to Sitio Paradise past 2 a.m. after receiving a call about an armed drunk man.

Basaca allegedly fired a .38 pistol at the police officers, prompting PO2 Gilolino Seno of Swat to fire back.

Basaca died on the spot from a gunshot wound on his head.

Insp. Genilo Veraque, chief of the Basak Police Station, said Basaca pulled the pistol’s trigger twice, but the slug got stuck.

Had the pistol fired, Veraque said Seno would have been shot. Seno shot Basaca using an M16 rifle.

Veraque said it was not the first time they received a call about Basaca brandishing and firing a gun while drunk.
