MORE than P400,000 in cash and several items were lost in separate incidents in Metro Cebu early this week.

In Mandaue City, a branch of Julie’s Bakeshop was robbed by an unidentified man armed with a knife in Barangay Labogon, Mandaue City last Tuesday night.

The suspect fled with P1,400 cash from the bakeshop’s drawer after threatening the cashier with a kitchen knife.

A barangay tanod reported the incident to the Basak Police Station at 10:40 p.m., about 10 minutes after the robbery.

Joana Andres, a non-uniformed personnel at the Basak Police Station, said the bakeshop has three closed-circuit television cameras but these failed to capture the culprit’s face.

Andres said the CCTV footage only showed the suspect’s head.

In Talisay City, a former driver of a construction firm was arrested for allegedly stealing P300,000 cash from the company last Monday.

Jason Butalid, 25, who used to work for Zion Construction in Barangay Dumlog, Talisay, was arrested in his uncle’s house in Barangay Imelda, Ubay, Bohol last Tuesday afternoon. Police, however, only recovered P40,000 from Butalid.

Butalid’s identity was verified through a footage captured by the firm’s security camera.

In an interview, Butalid told Sun.Star Cebu that he only took the money to help his ailing mother in Mindanao and his relatives in Bohol.

“I hope they can forgive me. I only did it for my family,” Butalid added.

In Barangay Labangon, Cebu City, a 31-year-old man was arrested yesterday for allegedly stealing cable amplifiers worth P112,000.

Police identified the suspect as Edwin Tangcoco, a resident of Barangay Buhisan, who was caught allegedly in the act of stealing the cable amplifiers.

Tangcoco refused to comment on the allegation. (Franchesca Lee and Johanna Marie O. Bajenting, USJ-R Mass Comm Interns)
